I actually am rather great for reasons that I doubt you have any interest in, and I can't stop listening to Michael Hurley. I wouldn't stop anyway, because he is also great, and I desperately need more of his albums. My brother and I were planning on ordering some of his harder to find albums directly from him, but somehow we got it in our heads that an expansively illustrated fan letter, or at least a highly decorative envelope, needs to accompany our check, and that has stalled the process. Only Michael Hurley could make anything in that sentence seem logical.

I haven't heard him before, so I will check him out. If you couldn't tell by all the cheesy, non-soulful shit that also dominates my library, despite appearing to have some knowledge of old blues & jazz, I am actually completely ignorant of every cool scene and only find music I like through random accident.

The Velveteen Wallet. I'm too tired to think of a joke, so just enjoy the punchline. Sorry for trespassing on your brain! Except I am not sorry at all. I am only a casual and pretty new fan of jazzy things, but Ain't Misbehavin' might be in my top favorite songs of all time. I was only familiar with Leon Redbone's cover of it for a long time and loved it. Then I came across Gene Austin's cover and loved it as well, so I decided to check out the original and was totally blown away by it. The three versions I know even give a portrait of three different people/attitudes in the song and it really takes good source material to allow for such subtle interpretations and transformations. Anyway, Fats is clearly king.

John Prine was a little unfair to himself when he made his debut album so good. I only have two of his albums and probably should get more, but I know there's no way they could come close to #1 because it's truly one of the greatest. This is bad reasoning but it's how it always plays out in my mind.

heh thanks man. had it for years now and see no reason whatsoever to change it. Anyone in particular you'd recommend from your top 20, white denim accepted of course as I'm already aware of their talents. I see a load of blues artists that I've never really checked out before but wouldn't mind doing so now.

Hm, that's not a bad idea. I usually listen to Sigur Ros at work because it has a tranquilizing effect (it's important to prevent a "rage incident," you see,) but Fahey probably would be better at making me give less of a shit. Especially since Fahey in the daytime is much more manageable than Fahey at night, which is when he tends to leave me wallowing in a swamp of existential bewilderment. Personally, I don't need much motivation to want to drop everything. I know I'm a terrible worker, and you probably are too, because who isn't?

Haha, thanks. This will sound unbelievably contrived, but his music is so deeply introspective (and good) that it just makes other things seem so trivial... which is not very conducive to being productive. Of course, judging by John's attitude in later interviews, he'd probably be infuriated by this sort of extravagant sentimentality bullshit. Don't worry John, my feelings are "for real."

Hello! Yeah, I think they started to go down the blues rock route with "D" but there was still a little experimentation with psychedelia, jazz and funk on some of the tracks. This album just seems like they're playing it safe. They're still the best live band I've ever seen though.

Hey, thanks, you too. Music is the best, isn't it. I'm sure you've caught them already, but if you haven't, definitely go see White Denim live, they are so tight and awesome and always just appear to be on top of the world, rocking out, which is just plain refreshing.

Unfortunately not, as it turns out my passport seemed to have expired. It is unfortunate that most of the good music festivals are in the states. How was it?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1ThSi1wbqU No. It was shit... I had no one to go with me. I'm too much around with Punks.... & they're just interested in being destructive - when we plan to see a concert - it seldom is so that it really happens - they're all drunk before or get bad trouble... I hate it. I kiss you my friend . Kat
