Much weaker than many of their previous efforts imho. Even the album that came right before this one, "Bloodflowers", had a lot of great stuff -- beautiful melodies, catchy guitar lines, little elegant ideas (like the piano in the chorus of "Last Days of Summer"), even interesting key changes! Here -- nearly nothing; with a lot of psychotic screaming. Of all tracks I'd at best pick "alt.end", "I Don't Know What's Going On", "Taking Off" -- maybe, "Anniversary" -- with a stretch.. PS: Not to offend anybody, just an obseravtion.

"A Boy I Never Knew", "Please Come Home", "Strum" IIRC :) http://www.ossh.com/thecure/ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/chainofflowers/news.htm old but reliable

thank you so much! idk if you already listened to 'All Mine' / 'Forever', but the 11min version named by bootleggers as "All I Have/Want/Had To Do Is Kill Her"...From 1982 Pornography tour. It's included in this bootleg "strange days"! ( https://genius.com/The-cure-all-i-have-to-do-is-kill-her-lyrics ) - you might like it :) anyways, have a nice day :)

@sumidiotdude I'm surprised to see how disliked this one seems to be in a lot of corners of the 'net. It's their lowest rated album on RYM (or was the last time I checked) and I've seen some pretty insulting comments about it on here, too, but I remember thinking when it came out that it was another winner after the strong Bloodflowers, and I enjoyed how it had an angrier, tougher sound to it.

Huge mistake to have Ross Robinson produce this. It's the driest, least interesting album sonically - the instruments are pushed back to the role of a backing-track, the bass is criminally subdued and the guitars (for the first time in any Cure album) are boring. Canned drums and a contempt for keyboard are apparent too.

If this album was an ep with 5-6 songs on it it would be one of their best. Lost, Us or them, The Promise, Going nowhere - all fantastic songs deserving more recognition.

Im surprised that one of my favorite albums comes so late in their discography.

I'm just glad Ross Robinson didn't make Smith tune down his guitars or anything. This is surprisingly solid.

I avoided this one for a long time because it was produced by that nu-metal guy and it supposedly sucked and it had terrible artwork on the cover. I even skipped seeing them on their tour for this album. But now that I'm finally listening to it, it's not bad at all. Not a classic or anything, but a good solid album.

Brilliant album and too underrated. People don't take the time to actually listen to how amazing it really is. It feels very "Cure". Way better than 4:13 in my opinion. Listen to This Morning, Going Nowhere, Labyrinth, Before Three, Truth Goodness and Beauty, Your God Is Fear...(plus more beautiful songs)...

Some of the tracks on this were the best they'd recorded since Disintegration... Lost, Labyrinth, Anniversary, Going Nowhere and Us Or Them are all fantastic.
