I discovered these guys with Nowhere Else, and fell in love with that album. So I'm genuinely surprised people loved their earlier albums so much more, as I feel they have been growing as a band since their first album. Risking sounding like an old Gen X, I prefer the "cleaner" production in Last Building Burning and Final Summer. Attack On Memory is a bit too DIY sometimes to my taste.

My old new favorite band. Can't get enough of their sound. Flawless indie noise emo post punk hardcore revival blend

just so ridiculously fucking underrated and overlooked, consistently one of the best currently active rock bands

Too many people hopped on the bandwagon for AOM and promptly bailed when H&NE didn’t garner the same hype and acclaim. Such a shame, because the band hasn’t released a dud LP in the last decade and a half. I may not have loved every album on first listen… but the replay value and growth is there in spades. Looking back now, there is no denying the consistency, like you said. Final Summer is no exception.

you're right, but it's crazy to me that "H&NE didn't garner the same hype and acclaim" when it's the better of those two albums.

I love how Cloud Nothings carried me through high school and then carried me through early adulthood after I forgot about them

Sigh, I have hurt some feelings here. 1) I have liked them in the past, I still do. 2) Who said polished? Definitely not me. 3) By curating I mean that bands could do with a person (be it producer or manager) who goes occasionally: look, this is b-side material. Maybe leave it for the archives. 4) And dude, ultimately I have an opinion on a music album that happens to differ from yours. Apologies for having the temerity to voice an opinion. I shall not make the mistake again.

I think the main difference here is that some fans like and thus accept anything Dylan does - as a form of conversation between people who sorta understand each other, if you will; and other fans wish Cloud Nothings to become something huge, like, no matter what. the both points are okay in my opinion, but personally, I’m with the first group

besides, I really enjoy all the bandcamp stuff. like... I’m really, really happy they put it out each month, even though it doesn’t qualify as a studio record. but there are some true gems. probably they won’t secure them a grammy award or something, but for me they’re absolutely precious and timely

“Sometimes less is more” is a totally valid take, but only when there’s an apparent quantity over quality situation. I haven’t been impressed with the EPs, but the 3 albums are all top-notch. If anything, Black Hole and Shadow are a bit stronger than LIOOE, which doesn’t feel quite as consistent start to finish. Those former 2 albums though... I don’t think there’s a single filler or throwaway track between them. Dylan is just built different. Not only a talented writer but a relentless machine, too.

Hate to say it but nowhere near as good as Last Building Burning. They've lost their intensity again :/

Apparently it was in the oven for years, because they felt it didn't compliment their other records. I guess withe the pandemic and the fact that people actually really liked Life without Sounds made the decision to release this easier. And I am glad since I am really liking it, but again I am a MASSIVE fan of Life without Sounds!

one of those bands where one day you put them on and know all the words and realize they're one of your favorite bands. their shows rule, cannot wait to see them again

Agreed, "Attack On Memory" is a timeless classic for me, even though I rarely revisit it for some reason.

ah I loved HaNE and I dug LWS but it's tough to follow up AoM, which stays timeless for me, and even stuff before that like Even if it Worked Out (low key early banger). But at least Dylan isn't my landlord

It's insane how different their first two albums sound compare to the newer stuff. Like a completely different band.

Their best and most aggressive/energetic album IMO. On an Edge sounds like fucking Drive Like Jehu! Awesome.

Эх, лучше бы продолжали с более попсовым, но качественным и интересным звучанием, зато сейчас фанаты тру нойз-рока набегут.

does the album sound darker because of the songs themselves or does it sound darker because of the album artwork?
