"Reason to Believe" is a song released by Carpenters for their sophomore album Close to You. It was written by Tim Hardin for his debut album Tim Hardin 1, in 1966.
It was one of the first songs Richard asked Karen to sing for the "Magic Lamp Label" sessions between 1966 and 1968. For years he liked the song, so finally did a version of it at the studio.
"One of the questions that we get asked quite a bit is, "What is our favorite song to sing?" And, really, there's quite a few of them, but the reason that we picked the next one we're gonna sing is because it's one of the very first songs that we ever sang together as The Carpenters. And we still think it's pretty nice. It's called "Reason to Believe.", said Karen Carpenter during their live concert in Japan, in 1972.
