He was born on November 18, 1917 at Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico. He was raised as a child in Guamúchil. He died on April 15, 1957 at Mérida, Yucatán, during a flight that he piloted himself to Mexico City. Starting in 1939 he appeared in more than 60 films, and since 1943 he recorded about 350 songs.
